I feel that things you use literally every day should be on the counter-top, or you’ll spend all your kitchen time slamming in and out of cabinets just getting ready to make a simple meal. But, whatever.

You should pretty much clear the counter of everything except maybe a large bowl with green fruit (green apples *or* artichokes, etc.). And have one item that’s a little antique-y in a major display area. Like a large old pharmacy scales; or a giant antique espresso machine.
